Rhodes (K)nights
Helios the god of the Sun may have rode his sun carriage around Rhodes for all of mythology time but it was the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St. John who are responsible for much of the medieval Gothic architecture of the Old Town (and the present time spookiness). It's all fun and games while you are laughing about in contemporary taverns, hopping through cobblestone streets and perusing knick-knack stands but night comes and all of a sudden you find yourself in an eerily abandoned corner just off the Street of Knights where there is no visible soul in sight. It's quiet but somehow you can almost hear swords rattling... The Order of St. John was charged with the healing of pilgrims and crusaders and bought Rhodes from Genoa to move their headquarters there. They restored and constructed castles and buildings and established a hospital. It seems like the healing trend continues to this very day as Rhodes is full of visitors looking to heal their heart and soul with vibrant night life, ouzo and sea salt. Not too bad of an idea!
