Thessaloniki
Turns out when you only travel for work on a tight schedule, you miss out on certain things - say museums, castles, ancient prisons, waterfront promenades, local cuisine and simply the life a city has to offer. Such was my case with Thessaloniki - Greece's second largest city and a favourite weekend destination of many Bulgarians due to its proximity, sunny climate, lively shopping streets, delicious food and spirited nightlife. What is there not to like? You have your usual traffic-filled, crazy-motorbiked urban scene with big brand names at every corner, and yet at any time you're steps away from a hip local designer, a gallery, a gourmet adventure or - not to be underestimated at all - the classic leisurely sunset seaside stroll with a casual cocktail stopover. Go ahead, pack your weekend bag, you know you want to!
