SOFIA'S PARADE (THE DAY OF SAINT GEORGE)
Each year Sofia celebrates the day of Saint George (and the Day of the Bulgarian Armed Forces) with a traditional military parade. Heavy machinery rolls slowly along the famous yellow pavement in the city centre showcasing the capabilities of the Bulgarian army. This year the temperamental May weather also showcased its capabilities with random bursts of thurnderstorms chasing spectators to take refuge in overcrowded cafés. Even so, to the content of spectators and participants alike, the sun shone at just the right times giving the swords of the changing guard just the right amount of sparkle.
