ROME
I'm fairly certain that if a written record on the subject existed somewhere, it would say that it's the Italians that invented tourism. Crowd-pleasing piazzas give way to a network of narrow charming streets lined with beautifully decorated cafés, restaurants and shops. Window spaces glow with meticulously arranged designer goods. Street musicians play different instruments at every corner, gladiators offer picture taking services at every other corner and in the span of ten minutes I was asked by guides of at least ten nationalities to show me the Colosseum. Take your language pick - you will find someone to guide you through the city. No wonder the Romans are seeing evergrowing millions of visitors each year.
