Niagara
One of nature’s true wonders, the Niagara Falls, impress at first sight with sheer dimensions and beauty - it’s a breathtaking view that mesmerises, inspires and humbles you. The roaring water thunder is so loud it reaches the very bottom of your soul and as you walk through the all-encompassing mist you can nearly feel the ground shaking from the water force. No wonder - 3160 tons of water flow over the falls every second with a speed of around 35 km/h and hit the base of the falls with up to 2509 tons of force. The Niagara Falls produce over 4 million kilowatts of electricity shared between the United States and Canada. I would have expected such a natural phenomenon to be surrounded by parks and various ways to experience nature but to my surprise shorty after the scenic views I found myself in the gambling and entertainment haven of Canada. The roaring water thunder was replaced by the total sensory overload of rollercoasters, haunted houses, gaming machines, shooting ranges and their screaming for one reason or another visitors. The only thing missing was for a flying dragon to land next to me to have a conversation about the weather, everything else was covered. My photographer side was very happy to take colourful pictures but sooner rather than later you’d want to escape from the Clifton Hill tourist havoc. Luckily a short drive out of Niagara Falls can get you to one of the over 50 wineries in the region where you can unwind from the Niagara heart rush with a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
