Limenas
One of the doorways to the evergreen island of Thassos is Limenas - a place where you have no doubt landed if you've taken the ferry from Keramoti. Limenas is not only a transit destination though - it has archeological treasures dating back to when the island was part of the Rhodope mountain range and there was no sea in-between. Limenas used to have its own Agora marketplace, Acropolis and even an amphitheatre. You can hop around remnants of this and that in town or take a short hike up to visit the theatre and enjoy panoramic views. In the evening Limenas comes to life with its small but busy shopping area full of souvenirs and local produce. It's the perfect time to wind down with a cocktail to watch the sunset or to enjoy an extended meal at one of the many tavernas around - just make sure you don't miss the last ferry back to the mainland if you only came for the day!
