Sometimes it isn't until we have our foreign friends visit Bulgaria that we venture to rediscover the places we first visited as children. Who hasn't done a school trip to Koprivshtisa to learn about the roots of the April Uprising and visit the homes of all the revolutionaries? Nowadays the town is as well kept as ever, busy with smiling tourists and even featuring afternoon entertainment - national songs and dances at the town square. New facts this photographer learned from the trip: apparently there are way too many songs about Elenas in Bulgarian folklore - with the exception of one song featuring a Maria, all the other songs performed had some form of an Elena causing trouble. And there I was thinking it was mostly the popular song about Elena and the green hay...
