Ermoupoli
Ever heard of a Greek island capital which is just as alive in winter as it is in summer? The Cyclade’s Ermoupoli is exactly that. Shrewdly named after the ancient Greek god of trade, Ermoupoli spent a good part of its life as a trading hub. The prosperous inhabitants developed the town’s current Neoclassical architecture and set the foundation of the art and culture scene which until today makes the island capital just as vivid with music as it is with colours. Ermoupoli is relatively compact (mostly upwards) but you have plenty to explore. Just bear in mind the streets can get tiny - really, really tiny. I’d suggest starting on some abdominal exercises well in advance as the times you may have to hold your breath to suck in your stomach while glued to a wall with your toes facing outwards a la Donald Duck so a Smart-sized car can pass are way more than you can imagine.
