Aveiro
Aveiro may be famous for its gracefully cruising molineiros painted in bright colours but it treats its visitors to so much more. Don't get me wrong - I can happily spend hours photo chasing boats with aptly themed paintings showing off social issues and naughty human nature - but strolling the streets to enjoy the intricate details of art nouveau buildings, hunting for walls of azulejos and deep diving in luscious green parks with their own bamboo forest gives Aveiro depth and everyday charm difficult to escape. Not that anyone is escaping - tourists are plenty though crowd control is significantly better than at other notable European canal featuring tourist destinations. Add a pinch of salt to your next Portuguese trip and drop by Aveiro - ah yes, Aveiro is a producer of fine sea salt but that as well as coastal neighbourhood delights remained on the to do photography list for next time. Because you know, you always have to leave one thing behind in order to come back.
