Alberobello
There are places in Italy so iconic that you dare not pass them by if you are in the area. Alberobello is one of those spots - I’m pretty sure it must have broken Instagram at one point together with Chinese-copied Hallstatt. Even out of season with the better part of the establishments in the Monumental Trulli Zone closed, signs kindly (or not so kindly) asking tourists not to touch merchandise and pets and to pay for food and drinks hint at the hordes of visitors during seasons of better weather. As disappointed as I was by the inconvenient bus schedule which didn’t allow for sunset times, I must admit I enjoyed the occasional strollers in leu of tourist crowds. It makes for a much more pleasureful experience - one when you can actually enjoy the streets and view the trulli with their symbols and intricate details in peace and quiet.
